COSMETOLOGY COURSE

1500 hours required for state licensure

Cost $7,940.00 includes enrollment fee ($100.00), application fee ($50.00), books & kits ($595.00), mannequins, smock.... everything you will need to complete the course.

The $100.00 enrollment fee and $50.00 application fee is required 2 weeks prior to the class start date. If necessary, payment arrangements are available for the kit and books. To make arrangements please see the financial officer. Classes start every other month...call for the next starting date.

Additional fee upon graduating. Practical and theory state board exams are required by everyone in order to receive a state license at a fee of $115.00.

Monthly payments will vary depending on the amount of financial aid that the student qualifies for.

Colonial Heights Beauty Academy is Nationally accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences.  The National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences is recognized by the United States Department of Education as a national accrediting agency for postsecondary schools and programs of cosmetology arts and sciences, electrology, and massage.

Various schedules

FULL TIME STUDENTS:

9am to 5pm five days a week... Saturday mandatory. Takes 10 to 12 months to complete. ($599.58 monthly payment after a $745.oo deposit for self-paid students)

 

PART TIME STUDENTS:

9am to 2pm Tuesday through Friday & 9am to 5pm on Saturdays. Takes approximately 16 months. ($479.67 monthly payment after a $745.00 deposit for self-paid students)

 

NIGHT STUDENTS:

5pm to 9pm Tuesday through Thursday & 9am to 5pm on Saturdays. Takes 18-22 months. ($359.75 monthly payment after a $745.00 deposit for self-paid students)

* Job placement assistance available, but not guaranteed

*Approved for veterans assistance benefits

 

Admission Requirement

16 years of age

High school diploma or GED

In admitting students in our school, discriminate on basis of sex, age, race, color, religion, or ethnic origin.

All students must maintain satisfactory progress in attendance and academic studies while enrolled

COURSE GOALS

Learn the principals of hygiene, poise, personality and professional ethics.

An understanding of bacteriology is necessary.

Basic understanding and application of safety in the salon.

Functions of the human cells, structure and composition.

Structure and composition of nails and their disorders.

Structure and composition of the skin and its disorders.

The value of good client consultation.

Properly given manicures and pedicures.

To understand and master the basics of the Art of Nail technology including nail tips, nail wraps, acrylic nails and nail art.

Various methods of draping a patron.

Knowledge of professional methods of shampooing.

Purpose of scalp and hair care.

How to cut and use guidelines in hair shaping.

Techniques employed in finger waving.

Basic knowledge of hairstyling.

Difference between handmade and machine made wigs.

Scalp and hair analysis, prior to permanent waving.

Hair coloring and lightening techniques, why and when they are used and chemicals that are involved.

Why and when chemical relaxers are used, and what is contained in the products used.

Purpose of hair pressing.

Functions of thermal waving and curling

Purpose of massage and the effects of the facial.

Procedure for facial make up and false eyelashes.

Techniques used in removing unwanted hair.

Nature of electricity and light therapy.

Chemistry of various products.

Operation of a beauty salon.

Rules and regulations of the State Board of Cosmetology.

Requirements and procedures for passing the State Board.
